First, we reviewed the elements of narrative stories including character, setting, plots, conflict, etc.
In reading currently, we have been focused on identifying the THEME or message of narrative stories. We have also been focusing on another important skill that common core has been pushing which includes showing EVIDENCE from the text that supports your answer. With the new M-Step standardized test looming on the horizon, we have been focusing on applying this skill into almost EVERY lesson. First, we reviewed the elements of narrative stories including character, setting, plots, conflict, etc. We then looked at some common themes found in literature and identified different short story summaries themes. Bringing in our EVIDENCE component, we then have been reading short stories, identifying their themes, and then proving WHY we believe that to be the theme based off of EVIDENCE taken straight from the text.

In math, we have begun our fraction unit and students are hard at work breaking down whole numbers into parts. One of the activities we have done was the creation of fraction pizzas. Students worked with a partner to break down a whole pizza into different fractions. Here are some of the results: |
